Chester History >
Chester is of the county's older, unincorporated villages. It is
a growing area. Back in the mid 1800's, Chester was on the county's
main east-west road, the Bermuda Hundred Road. Also, several railroads
intersected there.
Location >
Chester location: about ten miles south of Richmond near Petersburg.
Interstate 95 forms the community's eastern border, while the communities
of Bellwood, Harrowgate and Courthouse are located to the north,
south and east, respectively. The community of Enon lies east of
Chester. US Route 1 and State Route 10 cut through Chester. It is
also located where both routes intersect.
